Recently I've joined and left a number of groups. And I'm starting to lose faith in the whole system.
Sure, there are a few really good groups on dA, you just have to wade through about 1000 bad ones to find one of the good ones.
One in particular I left has about tripled in members since I joined it about a year ago. And they have grown far too snobby for my liking. But for the most part they are all the same. Poorly managed.
People join groups for exposure, there is no point in denying it. But sadly most of the judging is done on the basis of personal taste. Not everyone thinks 5 minute sparkly anime sketches are examples of good art, yet most of the time they seem to take priority over work that someone has put a lot of thought and effort into. I'm not the only one who has noticed this biased judging. I've been a contributor for a few different groups, and I have seen it happen quite a few times where honestly good work has been rejected. I dont understand it.
Most of the time I try not to, but I've fallen into that trap too. It's not easy to look at something objectively, especially if it is not your taste. But I dislike the way this system is discouraging talented people from using dA, and even from joining and submitting to groups.
It's just starting to annoy me
