Paper Query...

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 10, 2009, 3:58 PM
Well, the summer holidays are drawing to a close for a lot of us, and I am no exception. Though honestly I can't wait for winter to get here at this stage. There is a swarm of wasps in my garden. Literally. (we have an apple tree, and they are falling off it now, so the wasps are attracted to the apples I suppose). I am kind of afraid to go out there at the moment, so I really want the cold to come so they will just die already. With my luck we will probably get an indian summer. =

Anyway....

I have this craving for pastels. I can't really describe it as anything else, it just feels like a craving. Almost like you would have for food... The thing is, the sound of pastels on cartridge paper reminds me of chalk on a blackboard, and it makes my teeth hurt (and gives me the shivers) O.o It's weird, I know, but does anyone know of any paper that doens't cause this? It would also be nice it if allowed for the same "smudgy" effect as cartridge allows. If I can find one, I'm gonna dust off my pastel pencils and have a crack at the A2 sketchbook I have tucked behind my desk...yum...

Wellll, If you havent found something already, have you tried Sugarpaper? Orrr you know Evans, it's somewhere along the Luas tracks...
Well they do assorted textured paper like 10 sheets for 1.30 or something...Nothing too expensive and it comes in nice grey, creams and browns.
There is specific paper for pastels...I have a pad of it somewhere...think the brand is Reeves...but I could be wrong.
Sometimes in Read's they sell that brand.

rofl I actually went on a quest to find Evans last week, but failed. a few of my teachers say it's really good for finding specific things, but I couldn't even find the place. I'll have a look in Reads on saturday, don't think I've ever actually been in there.

I mean it's not a case that I can't use normal paper and still have a nice effect, I am just being fussy with the sound of the scratching on the paper. :x

XDD Well, when im back in ireland i'll be making a trip there for some of that paper. And if you're not too afraid of strangers you can come along <3
No i can totally understand, noises liek that do my head in.

Reads is nice. I used to work in Spectra on Grafton so it was just a stones throw for me on my breaks XDD
Evans is a bit of a pain in the ass to find XD

haha, well thanks xD but I would be more of a burden than anything, my eyesight is quite bad :P Probably why I couldnt' find it in the first place rofl.

I really must have another look when I'm in town tomorrow though. There are quite a few things I need for school that you can't get in places like Eason's.

That paper looks nice, but I suppose it' probably one of those things I'd have to pick out in person. Or try a few different kinds :( I was thinking a slightly glossed paper might reduce the noise and friction, but I really don't know now.

I will look out for this kind of paper when I go to the art shop tomorrow though :3
